A message from Wayne Sowden. Chair of Thirsk Falcons

This season has to be one of the clubs most successful seasons to date, not only on the field but behind the scenes off the field. On the field the Club entered 19 teams into local leagues and each and every team competed at a very high level, there is a buzz about teams from Thirsk and over the last couple of seasons we have found we are attracting players from all around the region.

We are looking to develop more girls teams and ultimately would like to have a girls team at every age group as well as a senior women's team. We have a satellite club in partnership with The Dales School providing disability football sessions plus a partnership with North Yorkshire Soccer Academy to deliver our fledglings programme, and we are looking to grow even more, but to do this and take us to the next level we have to keep up the positive momentum that we have now, we can't sit back and relax we have to keep moving forward.

We have a growing army of DBS checked, qualified coaches. We have some great experienced ex Falcons players coming in to manage our younger teams, we have qualified coaches with vast experience within Junior football who have been with this Club for over 10 years! and some fantastic new enthusiastic coaches!

We have the largest number of licensed coaches we have ever had, with the largest number of level 1 level 2 and 3 coaches, we have coaches with youth mod 1,2 and 3 awards and we have 3 fully qualified goal keeper coaches. Going forward we will pull all the different ideas and skills together from all our coaches and create a Development programme for both coaches and players to help maintain the growth of the club.

People behind the scenes who I would like to thank, Geoff Nash for everything he does for the Club, Dave Whitfield over ten years as treasurer and servant to the Club, Debbie Ingoldsby grants, media, sponsorship, Catherine Ross and Dawn Bramham fund raising, volunteer coordinators hours and hours in the cafe, Dick Bramham Groundsman I don't think I've ever seen the pitches look so good all the way through a season, as well as all the coaches, parents and many more people who contribute to this great club.

Today marks a new era, over the years we have discussed the idea of joining with the Seniors and to have 'One Club'. This has not been an easy task, but within the last few months both clubs have made the important decision to merge.

At last night’s AGM the club officially vote to become a New Club incorporating the juniors and the seniors - Thirsk Falcons Football Club.

This means we will offer football from our fledglings 3 to 5yrs all the way through to our u16s, 17s and 18s. And as we look to have Senior Reserve teams for the players to get used to adult football, it will mean that our senior team have an abundance of talent coming up from the youth teams to complement the older players.

We will retain our talent pool and ensure that we continue to develop the infrastructure to ensure the senior team is playing at the highest level possible achieving our ultimate vision of Pro Football in Thirsk, with our own 1st team pitch, stadium and our own club house.

We continue to be a committed partner in the Sowerby gateway project and continue discussions with the council regarding the gateway as well as our own plot of land something we can call home.

We want all of our younger players to look up to and admire our 1st team and aspire to play for Thirsk Falcons, we want to create a culture for us all to be proud of young and old.

This will take time and effort and it's not going to be easy but if we pull together, share the workload, and take offers of help no matter how big or small, we will get there. The Club needs you so please do get involved where you can.

I would like to welcome on board the newly voted in committee to help us take the club forward. We're delighted to have the original founder of Thirsk Falcons Geoff Garbutt as president, as well as Josh representing the seniors as vice chair. To all the committee members and coaches new and existing plus all the volunteers who will be supporting the club’s work in a variety of new roles - thank you for your continued support and hard work. Its exciting times ahead!
