Thirsk Falcons FC Celebrates Community Football Day
The McDonald’s FA Community Football Days provide opportunities for thousands of players and volunteers to get involved in local grassroots football across the country.
Last Sunday, almost a hundred boys and girls came along to Thirsk Falcons fun day as part of The McDonald’s FA Community Football Day programme to enjoy a football filled fun day.
Participants were given the opportunity to get to know Thirsk Falcons and the local North Riding FA junior football league, as well as the chance to take part in a range of supervised activities courtesy of Carlton Lodge Activity Centre including a 40 ft zip wire, climbing tree, archery and a lake rope walk!
McDonald’s Director of Football, Sir Geoff Hurst, said: “Grassroots clubs up and down the country hosted football community days for everyone to enjoy. It is so important that we offer everyone from the surrounding community the opportunity to get involved with their local clubs and what better way to do it than bring them together to enjoy a day of football and fun activities together. As a result clubs will grow and prosper but more importantly we are providing them the support to offer better opportunities for youngsters to get involved in grassroots football.”
Wayne Sowden Thirsk Falcons Chairman said ‘We had a great day! The weather was glorious and the feedback we’ve had has been brilliant. Parents have been commenting that the kids loved it, they haven’t stopped talking about it and it was action packed from start to finish! Big thank you to Tesco Thirsk once again for the donation of the breadbuns and a huge thank you to Carlton Lodge Activity Centre for their generous support. Thanks also to McDonald's and the FA for selecting the club to represent the County as part of the FA's nationwide football community festivals. This is just one of the many fundraising community events Thirsk Falcons operate throughout the year and with all profits ploughed back into the club, it's events like these that keep our subs the lowest in the county”
The McDonald’s FA Community Football Day is just one part of McDonald’s long standing Community Partnership with The FA. The programme aims to raise the standard of grassroots football by working closely with clubs to offer better kit and better support to ensure children throughout England have better access to good quality football.
