We were back in County Durham again and this time displayed one of the best battling performances you will see from a side this season. Falcons showed they could keep it on the ground or go back to front if needed and it was a similar performance to last week - plenty of possession and chances - with nothing to show for it. When an Aycliffe striker latched onto a through ball and slotted past the keeper you thought 'oh no, not again'. The lead didn't last long. A push on Benno led to a free kick just outside the box and Hugh rifled home.
This was a hard fought, pulsating end-to-end tie that despite our best efforts and having plenty of possession we failed to capitalise and went out 2-1. Mitch opened the scoring early in the first half but shortly after the hosts equalised and a snap shot from the edge of the area put them in the driving seat. We had plenty of chances in the second half but either didn't pull the trigger early or looked for a pass when a shot was on. Disappointed with the result but not the performance.
A trip up the A1 for the Clarets this morning for a Hambleton League match. After a slow start the boys got going and we saw them playing some lovely link up play; Josh and Owen were pushing forward and looking to move the ball into space, William ran his heart out chased down every ball with his head down goalward bound, Fin excelled in the forward position and showed some great footwork to dazzle the oppositions defence a number of times. Leo was showing off his pace to track back and take up the defensive role when required.
